Exploring the Surprising Healing Power of Hemp
Industrial Hemp as a product for personal health, has been intriguing for many who are looking for relief on their nervous system. It not only eases bodily discomfort associated with anxiety and depression, but the fibers extracted from the hemp seed have been correlated to substantial health benefits.Â
Recent publications have noted this with positive reinforcement, as one review published in the journal of Molecules claims that,
“Hemp seed delivers a desirable ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 PUFA, which can improve cardiovascular health, reduce osteoporosis symptoms, and diminish eczema conditions.” (Rupasinghe, et al., 2020).Â

Hemp is also moving forward as a potential candidate for cancer treatments. Cannabinoids such as Hemp are found to “play a role in regulating cellular mechanisms causing anti-proliferative, anti-metastatic, anti-angiogenic, and pro-apoptotic responses” (Rupasinghe, et al., 2020). In terms of women’s health, Hemp restorative structure and rich fibers also can aid in so many neglected areas of personal health and pleasure.Â
Skirts magazine recognizes the importance of Hemp as an essential product, and on October 14th, held our first ever HempFest, supported by Sycamore BioPharma Inc. Ghost Monkey Brewery, Striped Pig Distillery, and MUSC College of Pharmacy.Â
The speaker list boasted leading practitioners and researchers in the field of Industrial Hemp resources, including Dr. Antionette Biegaj, Dr. Mark Hamann, Dr. Mark Luckie, Cynthia Schempert, our very own Pixie Paula Dezzutti, and Elijah Siegler. Topics ranged from the work that Cynthia has done in the realm of hormone imbalance therapy and her creation of the Southeastern Virtual Hormone Clinic, Dr. Hamann’s research for Biochimica with a focus on natural products like Hemp that combat cancer, Dr. Beigaj’s experience in chiropractic care and the nervous system’s responses to Hemp, and Professor Siegler’s research in the religious history of Psychoactive drugs. Tyler Stone, president of Sycamore BioPharma introduced his wide range of Hemp products and his work in producing high quality CBD oils and Hemp related products.

All of this integral, vital health information, was available to the public along with live music, food and drink, within the atmosphere of Striped Pig Distillery.Â
Skirt cares about women’s health and personal satisfaction, and although for years cannabinoid related products have been met with some stigma due to their relation to the psychoactive chemicals of THC—there is a new resurgence of focus towards oils and hormonal treatments that serve as non-psychoactive remedies for an abundance of ailments and bodily distresses.Â
With the success of Hemp fest and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all those involved, this work allows for a more open, safe, and welcoming environment for discussion on Hemp products and their expanding use.Â
