DIY: Your Weekend Hangout

My man and I have been on a DIY project bender. Maybe it’s actually having a few weekends off again, or just wanting to have a nice place to relax that doesn’t involve beastmoding it through traffic to get to the beach. For whatever reason, we have gotten back to fixing up our little box.

Most recently, we finished the screened-in porch. It went from a storage bin for our junk to our little oasis. Above is before (pictures aren’t great, but you get the gist… not awesome). Jeremy started with a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. The chairs were a gift from Jeremy’s mama, older pieces from the antique store. He sanded and re-stained the wood and I headed to Wal-Mart for some white fabric to cover up the outdated green leather. I threw in a few pillows and, Presto! These babies have a whole new life.

I slowly started to accumulate the other items for the porch. The rug we found at Target (on sale); the shelf, side table, and plants I got at Wal-Mart. The hammock was an Amazon purchase (for under $40) and seriously the best find. You can sit, lay back, or completely stretch out, but it does not take up a lot of room when no one’s in it. Honestly, it’s my go-to spot in the morning to relax, do a little Facebooking, and enjoy my morning coffee.

The last little piece was the potting bench that I found at World Market (on sale). It is perfect for our new side project. Jer just created an amazing raised garden and I am attempting to work on my green thumb by germinating peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and basil. We will see how this turns out. With it being my first attempt, I am not holding out much hope, but who knows; maybe we’ll get lucky!

Anyone who knows me, knows how proud I am of our little porch, probably to the point of annoyance. However, there is something to be said about having a little place to escape to, especially when it conveniently lies in your own yard. It’s nice to sit, relax, and enjoy something you created, and if Harry Potter happens to be on in the background, so be it. Look who I got to hop in for one last photo, the master DIY-er himself! Hope everyone enjoys the weekend in whatever place you love to escape to!
