Where Yummy and Beauty Meet

In this influencer’s opinion, that’d be smack dab in the richness of Moisturizer World. When our sizzling hot low country summers give way to the cooler climes of November and impending winter, it’s my skin and hair that’s left zapped of moisture like a low tide marsh of cracking pluff mud.

First and foremost, water is where hydration begins. Lots of this glorious clear stuff consumed throughout the day, is the number one protagonist for keeping your body, skin, and organs moisturized and hydrated.

Beyond water hydration, I seek out yummy moisturizers to help keep my skin replenished. Here are some of my faves, in the order I apply them:

Skin Medica’s HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator (hydrates skin and supports hyaluronic acid levels). . . this product is applied before moisturizers to help bind them to skin and plump skin layers. . . instantly smoothing and continuous hydration throughout the day. It’s available at Hehr Aesthetics.

La Mer (the original) . . . warm between fingers to emulsify then press into face, neck, and backs of hands. Available at Belk Town Centre (ask for Antonia).

Egyptian Magic. This jar of hardened olive oil, beeswax, honey, bee pollen, and royal jelly is fabulous! It, too, is best emulsified between warm fingers before being massaged onto face/neck/décolleté. They are available on Amazon.com and at Costco. (I got two jars and a travel size at Costco).

Bobbi Brown EXTRA Illuminating Moisture Balm is a smooth cream in a pump that has an iridescent tint to it. It can be applied before and after foundation.   I like to apply it after, and at the tops of my cheekbones for the slightest highlight sheen. Available at CosBar Charleston (ask for Kori).  fullsizerender

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 is made with Vitamin E; it’s an excellent salve to soften and moisturize dry lips, without a waxy build-up. It seeps in nicely over the course of a couple hours. I found my most recent tube at Nordstrom Rack.

Dermalogica Body Hydrating Cream. My favorite body cream, all year round. This is a traditional lotion that contains lactic and hydroxy acids to help keep skin lightly exfoliated. The myriad moisturizing ingredients are able to sink in wonderfully. It’s available at Ulta.

The Body Shop Body Butter. As the weather turns colder, I sometimes need a heavy-duty moisturizer and one of these butters works well to deeply hydrate skin on my legs and arms. This stuff is thick but rubs in easily. There are many “flavors” to choose from, and can now be found at TJMaxx or online.

Deep Steep’s Body Butter (in honeydew-spearmint). I can’t rave about this product enough. Not only is it the most yummy-smelling moisturizer, but it’s made from cocoa + shea butters, here on Johns Island! This is as thick and yummy as it gets, folks! It’s available in Whole Foods and several local boutiques or here.

Mudslide Nourishing Hair Mask by Drybar. This is a lovely moisturizing treatment to pack onto freshly shampooed hair. Leave on for 5-10 minutes for optimum benefits. There’s no comb that won’t glide softly through this treated hair! Available at Drybar locations or online.

And my personal indulgent favorite, Oribe’s Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil. It’s got that signature scent, and it’s not a greasy oil. It’s just light enough to tame any frizz, and give some oomph to a great blowout. Available at Stella Nova at Town Centre. Ask for Zach.
