To my one or two readers out there, I apologize for slacking on posting. I’ve been a busy bee, but not so busy that I couldn’t check out The Dark Knight this weekend. If you haven't seen it yet don't worry. I promise I won't spoil anything for you. But I am going to go on and on about how awesome it was.
I loved the movie so much I wanted to turn around and go see it again when I left the theater (at 1:30 a.m.). I'm a sucker for action movies (especially those with eye candy and fast cars) so it would have taken major screw ups for The Dark Knight to disappoint me.
But Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was simply phenomenal and, yes, even Oscar-worthy. Ledger completely transformed from himself and into that character. He was funny and frightening, often at the same time.
Sure there's a chance (a great chance) that he's only getting attention from the Academy because of his death since comic-book movies and Oscars typically don't mix. But I think he deserves it, nonetheless, and I would feel that way even if he was alive and well.
That said, I want to add that the whole cast was great and the action scenes gave me chills. I laughed out loud and found myself gripping the edge of my seat. Yes, it is looong (so don't bring a big soda into the theater) but I didn't mind at all. Each scene left me wanting more.
And I’m seriously looking to go see it again. In the meantime I’m hoping the recent allegations against Christian Bale aren’t true.
I haven't seen it and might actually wait 'til it comes out on DVD. Even then, it might sit on the shelf with John Q and I am Sam- movies that have a reputation for being extremely moving and I'm just not ready to watch them yet. I watched Schindler's List and was never quite the same. It took a long time for me to recover from that and that's before I was a mom...now I'm just a big ol' sap and stuff is very organic. If it's dark, it's gonna depress me.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.
