Is "safe" a reality?

*Update: Nancy Cooper’s body was found Monday night.  Here’s more.

Scary story in the News and Observer today: a 34-year-old Cary mom has been missing since she went for a jog early Saturday morning.   It’s a sad state of affairs when women can’t go out alone for fear of being attacked.

Do you go out alone for jogs or other reasons?  How do you stay safe?

I try not to go out alone AT ALL, which sucks, but it’s just the way it is.  If I’m not coming in or going out, my door is locked.  I leave my iPod off.  And I always call to let someone know where I am and what time to expect me.

Meanwhile, I’m praying for Nancy Cooper’s safe return to her family.  If you’re the praying kind, why not join me?
