Happy Surprises

Saturday, July, 12, 2008

We came into a small amount of money recently so we have been playing catch up.  When I shop, I try to take my time and wait things out.  So we have ordered many things online causing the UPS, USPS, and Fed EX people to buzz my driveway monitor several times over the last few weeks.

Yesterday in the early morning the buzzer went off.  Stainless steel pots and pans?  Nope, they’re already here.  Car parts?  No, they were delivered Wednesday.  Back to school clothes. Uh uh. The kids tore into that box and tried things on Monday.  Oh GAWD!  Maybe my new phone is here. As I threw on something appropriate for me to answer the door in and got to the door, I saw the UPS truck parked at the end of my driveway, brown rise up from putting a package on my doormat, and turn to walk off. That dashed my hopes of my phone.  (Or my faith in Sprint for allowing the “it” phone to be left at my doorstep without a delivery verification.)

The package was addressed to me. Hmm. And it was from a publishing company.  I finished and submitted my manuscript to my publisher Wednesday night- surely they didn’t have it outsourced to be bound and sent to me this quickly.  What could this be?  I finally got through the packing tape and under the black packaging to find not one, but two books- Jane Porter’s Odd Mom Out and Mrs. Perfect.  You’ll remember Jane as May’s Muse of the Month.

I had vowed I wouldn’t read another book until I finished mine. So two days after sending mine in with a month until school starts, my summer reads landed right in my lap.  I’m already 50 pages into Mrs. Perfect which, reading the reviews from my visual bookshelf on Facebook, I should have started with Odd Mom Out first.  Ah well.

Jane, if you’re still around- THANK YOU!  I’m going to hit the tub to delve into chapter 4 now!

Enjoy!
Renee

Wow. That is a happy surprise. As I read this post I thought, "Oh, I wish I had time to read two books this summer." That is ironic, of course, because I'm taking four college courses and, therefore, read constantly. And, totally hypocritical since I hit the "Click here to receive the next installment immediately" link at the end of my DailyLit.com installments of The Count of Monte Cristo at least a dozen times this morning. (Albert just re-introduced the count to Mercedes!) Reading is such a wonderful mind trip, isn't it? Enjoy your books. (And post a review!) Rhi B.
