Shop Local!

Thursday, July, 3, 2008
My Yankee Doodle Dandy’s birthday was yesterday…Happy Birthday Honey! He wanted nothing for his birthday other than a Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake. And guess what? I got him everything else he probably didn’t even want and I forgot to order the cake. Imagine that!

I frantically drove by Sweet Cow Creamery yesterday morning-they weren’t open till 1. I called Baskin Robbins-for a custom cake, they needed a 24-48 hour notice to deep freeze the ice cream and call in the decorator. I drove by Dairy Queen-the Blizzard cakes looked yummy, but just wouldn’t do. The thought of going home without the only thing he asked for sent me into a tizzy (the hormonal pregnant kind that’s usually accompanied by tears…not this time though).

As the day went on, I decided to call my friend Lucy who owns the Sweet Cow Creamery in downtown Aiken. If a custom Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake could possibly be made on the fly, I knew she’d get it done for me.

Well ladies (and gentleman, if there are any reading this), as it would turn out Lucy was up to the task, though a little nervous that her masterpiece would melt in transit. I turned the a/c down so low in my car that it was like a meat locker, and believe it or not, that frozen celebration in a box did not melt. If I didn’t fully live by the saying “Shop Local” before, I certainly do now.

THANK YOU LUCY…I promise next time I’ll give you a day or two notice.

Happy Fourth Everyone!!!
