Suffragettes!

Friday, June, 6, 2008

I really enjoy browsing through the old photographs on the Library of Congress’ photostream on flickr – particularly when I see images of some of our past feminists, the American suffragettes, like the one below (the title is “Women Voters Frisco,” from 1911 or later).

It’s amazing to me that we’ve come so far as a society over the past hundred years...and yet, we still have so far to go.

I am a feminist because of what I believe and also because I feel strongly that the women who have worked so hard and suffered greatly for the privileges we enjoy now need to be honored. Without them, we wouldn’t be allowed to work outside the home, own property, vote, be granted a divorce, drive...the list goes on and on.
