Every day is a lucky day...

Tuesday, December, 11, 2007

Because we’re working on our January issue (theme: “Lady Luck”), I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my own “lucky” charms, talismans, and rituals. One of my favorite lucky charms is a Happy Hoi Toi (Chinese god of fortune) figurine that I have on a shelf in my living room in hopes that it will draw good fortune to my home. My friend Jeff at LimeBlue in Charleston makes them and I’ve bought four or five in different colors already as gifts for friends (housewarming mostly). He makes them in all colors, but mine is dark red.

Can a little ceramic piece sitting on my shelf bring me good luck? I don’t know, but I think it has and hope it will. At the least, it makes me happy when I look at it.
