Muse "Out"

Friday, November, 30, 2007

This is my last official blog entry for Skirt.  I’ve enjoyed very much being your “Muse of the Month.”  Even though I’m an author, I’m not used to daily blogging because in addition to my writing, I have a full-time job and am raising two little girls.  So this has been a good challenge for me to exercise my creative writing skills on a daily basis.

I think what blogging teaches all of us is that we have a lot to say.  Clearly, the rise in popularity of blogs, especially parenting blogs, is evidence that there are a lot of people out there with things to share.  I’m so self-critical that sometimes it is hard for me to blog because I wonder aloud whether or not anyone cares.  But in the end, you always have a choice to read or not read blogs.  If you don’t care, don’t read them, period.

I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to do what so many women out there do, come up with something new every day.  I admire the people who are able to keep up this level of commitment to having new material daily.  I’ve tried to capture these moments in my collection of real-life parenting anecdotes called “Smotherhood:  Wickedly Funny Confessions from the Early Years.”  If you enjoy funny, raw, edgy stories about the chaos of being a mother in the twenty-first century I think you will really relate to this book.

Thanks for your feedback on my blog, good and bad.  I love touching nerves.  That means that I’m doing my job as a writer.  Luckily, after eighteen years of being a journalist I am like Teflon when it comes to arrows and mudslinging.  But I am a real softy when it comes to positive feedback and truly appreciate it when someone takes the time to say that they have enjoyed something I have written.

So, thanks again.  This muse has left the building...

Amanda, I've so enjoyed reading your posts this month! Even though I'm not a mom, many of your observations hit home with me too (and made me laugh out loud). Everyone who wants more of Amanda should buy a copy of Smotherhood - it's a great read and the perfect blend of irreverence and honesty!

Thank you for your daily insights and fun-loving humor. I came across Skirt! Magazine by accident, but you have converted me to a daily reader. Thanks for everything!

Amanda, Thanks so much for your witty, insightful and many times hilarious posts this month! The great thing about blogs is that you really feel like you get to know someone and get a chance to take a look into their lives, if only for a moment and realize that you're not alone! I really enjoyed reading your daily pieces and wish you the best. -h
