“Mommy, Daddy likes the nanny better than he likes you,” my little one said.
At first this raised my eyebrows, but I know my nanny well. My daughter didn’t mean it like that. So I decided to question her about her latest profundity.
“Because Mommy, sometimes you’re mean,” she said matter-of-factly.
Hmmm, could this be possible? I could deny it, but I won’t. I’m the disciplinarian in my house, and yes, I admit it, sometimes Mommy is mean.
“When you’re mean I just want to be with Daddy,” my little one said. Fun Daddy, mean Mommy. You get the idea.
She went on to say that I am especially mean when I rush her or ask her multiple times to do something. She also thinks I am mean when I tell her to turn off the television or the computer.
“Mommy, I can help you be nicer,” she said in a precious tone somewhere between babyhood and childhood. “For real. I’ll show you how to do it.”
Okay I agreed. You’re on, but let’s start by getting ready for school and turning off that damn television.
